Information
Technology Services provides
software support to students,
faculty, and staff. The levels
of support range from
full support for standard
software used campus-wide,
to limited support for software
that is not widely used or
is being phased out.
If you need help using any standard
software package, please start by checking TARA,
our technical documentation website. TARA is an online collection of
user guides and frequently-asked questions that are updated frequently to reflect
any changes in our standard software.
If you still have questions, please call the IT Service Center at ext. 4ITS (4487), send a message to 4its@smith.edu,
or stop by the Service Center in 203 Stoddard Hall during college business hours. You
can reach the IT Service Center from off-campus by dialing 413-585-4487.
Support for Educational
Courseware
The
Educational Technology
Services (ETS) group provides
limited support for courseware
used by students and faculty
in college courses. ETS,
with support from the Systems
and Network Services group,
installs and maintains
courseware on resource
center file servers. ETS
staff members will also
help faculty members find
and evaluate software for
teaching and research,
and assist in putting together
software requests.
Before purchasing software
and incorporating it
into a course, please
contact the Assistant
Director of ETS to determine whether ITS can
support your application.
Note that we are currently building
a database of the academic
software
available on campus
and the sites where
it can
be accessed. We
will provide a link to
the
resulting list as soon
as it is completed. See
the ETS web site for information
about related educational
services and projects.
Support for Administrative Software
The Administrative Technology Services (ATS) group assists administrative departments
with the selection and acquistion of software applications designed to perform
specific business functions. ATS will provide on-going support for applications
that it has approved. ATS will also assist departments with the development
of applications when a suitable off-the-shelf application cannot be found.
