Current Smith students play a crucial role in ensuring the success of Smith’s commencement and reunions, helping make these events fun, well-organized, and an essential source of connection. Working reunion provides opportunities to meet fellow Smith students, experience campus life during a celebratory period, gain valuable work experience, secure references for future job applications, and connect with inspiring alums.

The Office of Alumnae Relations hires approximately 200 students annually for approximately 6,000 job shifts. This year’s reunion work spans from  May 9–24, 2026  with reunion timeline being:

Additional Information

Reunion student workers are a vital part of making Commencement and Reunion weekends successful. The work can be demanding, but it is also meaningful and fun. During your free time, we encourage you to take advantage of the variety of activities available, but please remember that work commitments are your first priority. Compensation is for hours worked and includes meals and housing.

Each applicant will be notified of the association’s decision by email in mid-March. The application process is competitive and previous experience in similar positions is always helpful. Graduating seniors are not eligible to apply.

Note that this position is intended for students interested in working during BOTH weeks of reunion. Students working reunion can only depart campus after 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026. To be eligible, applicants MUST be available throughout the entire three-week period. However, work hours may vary from week to week. Alumnae Relations staff will determine schedules based on the needs of reunion, and will send you the finalized schedules for review in late April or early May. Every reunion student workers can expect to work between (25–40+ hours per week), while those in leadership positions may have to work more hours (35–45 plus hours/week). Reunion II hours may be slightly reduced (25–40 plus hours per week) due to the absence of commencement shifts.

Important Note About Housekeeping Coverage

Housekeeping positions have a set schedule at 22 hours per week. If we are unable to fully staff all housekeeping positions through the Housekeeping Only application, we may need to assign some General Reunion applicants to housekeeping shifts.

We will communicate this early and transparently if it becomes necessary. 

NOTE: Most of those hired, will be hired for housekeeping and dining shifts. Reunion workers will receive compensation for training and hours worked during reunion, along with free room and board. Pay rates will be determined by the Smith College office of student employment in the spring.

Sophomore Push and Junior Usher positions are a set guaranteed 15 hours maximum. These positions are only through Commencement, which is the first Reunion Weekend. Sophomore Push and Junior Usher positions end after commencement. So if you are a sophomore or a junior and can’t attend the second reunion, apply as Sophomore Push or Junior Usher.

Remember, most of those hired, will be hired for housekeeping and dining shifts. Reunion workers will receive compensation for training and hours worked during reunion, along with free room and board. Pay rates will be determined by the Smith College office of student employment in the spring.

Eligibility

  • Able to remain on campus through the end of the second Reunion weekend
  • Able to work full-time (at least 35 hours per week)
  • Free of all other commitments during this time
  • Able to attend ALL required Reunion training, which may occur on a weekday evening  prior to start of reunion. Date TBD
  • Have a W-4 and I-9 form on file with Student Employment or Student Financial Services

Job Descriptions

Note: If you miss two scheduled work shifts, you will lose your job and your on-campus housing.

You may wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty, e.g. jeans, sweatpants/shirts, shorts, t-shirts, closed-toe shoes.

Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning furniture and floors; vacuuming; cleaning bathrooms and equipment; dusting; changing linens/making beds; etc. Note: Quality cleaning is detailed work and you will be held to strict standards.

The hours for housekeeping include an unpaid hour break for lunch and two paid 15-minute breaks during the day scheduled by your work coordinator. Each work coordinator will turn in a daily attendance sheet, which will include the actual hours worked during that day.

 

You must wear a white top, black slacks or skirt, and dark, closed-toe work shoes for all Dining Services shifts.

Breakfast Worker
Sets up and replenishes buffet, washes dishes.

Check-In Assistant
Helps collect meal tickets/check-in.

Dishwasher
Washes and puts away china/silver/glassware.

Kitchen Worker
Preps and cleans kitchen.

Runner
Replenishes buffet.

Pantry Worker
Assists dining room and with dishwashing.

Ticket Assistant
Sells tickets for purchasing beverages.

Server
Serves food at events.

You must wear a Reunion Student Worker t-shirt.

Shuttle Driver
Provides transportation to alumnae, guests and Reunion staff around campus. Must be SGA van certified prior to beginning of reunion.

On-Call Worker/Floater
For this job shift, you will come to the RSP headquarters and go wherever another Reunion student worker is needed. You will need to be flexible and prepared to do a variety of jobs. If more alums show up for a meal than are expected, or another Reunion student worker calls out, or the registration tent is swamped, you will be asked to report wherever you are needed and save the day! And just like a true superhero, you will need to bring clothes that will work in lots of places. 

Registration Assistant
Assists the Office of Alumnae Relations with alum check-in.

Ribbons and Bags
Distributes parade ribbons to alums at the Alum Parade line up. (Reunion shirt).

Ribbon Inventory
Takes inventory of all ribbons on hand following Reunion II parade. Packages and stores unused ribbons in the Alumnae House.

Smith Travel Program Assistant
Provides assistance to the Smith Travel Program by passing out brochures, collecting information and other tasks as assigned.

Brass Polisher
Assists with preparing the brass standards for the parade.

Conference Center Assistant
Assists with many of the evening events at the Conference Center. Must be outgoing and willing to interact with faculty and event guests. Reunion student workers will be greeting guests, helping supervise and set up Reunion dinners, and performing other tasks as assigned.

Graduation Chair Wiper/Chair Removal
Set up and/or remove chairs for Commencement.

Outreach Assistant Ribbons
Assists the Office of Alumnae Relations with ribbons for both parades.

Student Usher
Assists with parades and other tasks as assigned.

Theater Usher
Greets guests and assists with coats, wraps, bags and umbrellas, if necessary. Directs alums and guests to appropriate seating and locations.

Parade Assistant Banner Carrier*
Assists assigned class during both Reunion weekends. Additional job and shift information will be provided during mandatory parade training.

Parade Assistant 1776 Brass Standards* 
The 1776ers are non-Reunion year attendees who choose to march as the last group. Additional job and shift information will be provided during mandatory parade training.

Parade Assistant* 

Helps with the Alum Parade by carrying signs, pushing wheelchairs, assisting specific classes, seating alums, passing out programs, etc. You must wear all white with black shoes. You should wear either a top and pants/skirt or a dress. No shorts. If you have a parade shift, you must attend the mandatory training each week.
