Nathan DuFord

Nathan DuFord teaches political theory. Their research and teaching focus on critical theory, feminist thought, queer theory, psychoanalysis, and contemporary political thought. Nathan focuses on developing theory adequate to understanding and changing the world we find ourselves in. His first book, Solidarity in Conflict: A Democratic Theory, argues that conflict is good for solidarity organizations by ensuring they stay democratic. The text uses examples from the gay liberation movement, feminist movements, Black Lives Matter, unions, and even solidarity groups who aim at domination, such as men’s rights activists. Currently, they are writing a book, Damaged Capacities, on sex/gender and sexuality in the work of the early Frankfurt School members.

Nathan earned a philosophy Ph.D., focused on social, political, ethical, and legal philosophy, from Binghamton University in 2016. Previously, they earned an M.A. in philosophy from Binghamton University, and a B.A. in philosophy/political science from New College of Florida. He’s previously worked at University of Hartford, University of North Carolina Wilmington, and Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
