Biography
Ethan works in the writing center at Amherst College where he specializes in scientific communication. In addition to teaching in the Precollege Program at Smith College, he has been a humanities teacher at a Waldorf high school, a college instructor of literature and composition, an outdoor educator and whitewater river guide, and a drum teacher. When it comes to solving the climate crisis, Ethan believes we have to rekindle our relationship with the Earth, we need to remember the power of communities, and we need to do work that brings us joy.
Ethan earned a bachelor’s degree from Guilford College, where he studied geology and environmental studies, and a master’s in English and American studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. When he’s not in the classroom or reading student essays, Ethan is most likely wandering the forests of western Massachusetts with his family, tinkering with his collection of garage sale bicycles, or reading a good novel.
