Why Smith?
I appreciated Smith’s dedication to wellness. When I was applying, Smith constantly mentioned helping students be whole. I liked the idea of developing myself academically and mentally.
What does being a Smithie mean to you?
Using the resources and experiences I've gained at Smith to mold the best version of myself.
Why is financial aid important to you?
When I applied to Smith, I was the only one in my family working. Without financial aid, I wouldn't have been able to transfer to a four-year college and come to Smith. Smith has been so supportive, which has made my transition much easier.

What are you studying?
Computer science with a concentration in community engagement. I plan to work in the cybersecurity field as a cyber threat analyst.
What is your favorite thing about Smith?
The curriculum. I can explore many different areas and find new interests. I’ve been able to learn a new language, and learn about fitness, education and more.
Are there faculty or staff members who stand out for you?
Yes, the team at the Jandon Center for Community Engagement. After spending time at the center, I realized how effectively the team creates a space where students are welcome to study, relax or just chat. They are dedicated to creating diverse communities.
What’s an opportunity you’ve had at Smith that has changed you?
The Mindich Fellowship [an intensive teacher apprenticeship program sponsored by the Jandon Center for Community Engagement] gave me practical experience in the classroom. As someone who is also interested in becoming an educator, my biggest takeaway is that teachers must create an environment where students feel safe to speak up—where students can be comfortable being right and also being wrong.
Is there an accomplishment you’re proud of?
In the summer of 2022, I spent 12 weeks in San Francisco working as an IT intern at Lucasfilm. I learned a lot and gained both hard and soft skills. I enjoyed sharing this experience with my community back home in Antigua and was happy to be able to represent other girls interested in the technology field.
What do you hope to achieve at Smith?
I’d like to start my own personal brand, combining my interests in cybersecurity and education. I see a clear need for education about cybersecurity, for both children and adults.
Who has had the most influence on you?
My mother and my sisters. They have been a big support system in all areas of my life, especially education.
